Cut or Earn - The Two Options

✂ Cut

Find expenses to cut. Start with wants. Common cuts: cancel 2 subscriptions ($30), reduce dining out ($80), coffee at home ($40).

🌱 Earn

Add to your income. Options: freelance project, sell unused items, negotiate a raise, add one side hustle shift per week.

Most budgets need a combination. Cut 50-70% of the gap, grow income for the rest.

WHEN LIFE HAPPENS

What to Do When the Numbers Change

I got a raise

Add 50% to savings, 50% to lifestyle upgrade. Never spend the whole raise.

I had an unexpected expense

Pull from emergency fund. Then replenish it over the next 2-3 months by temporarily reducing wants.

My income dropped

Immediately cut all wants to minimum. Protect needs and minimum debt payments first. Savings rate drops temporarily.

💡 Review your budget every month. Life changes - your budget should too.
QUICK CHECK

Budget Builder Quiz

1. Your budget shows $200 unassigned at the end. Best action?

Assign every dollar. Unassigned money tends to disappear into impulse spending.

2. Your needs are 65% of income. What should you do first?

Some needs may actually be wants in disguise. Review before cutting wants.

3. You got a $500 bonus. You should...

Any income, regular or irregular, should go through your budget plan first.
